Nursing Home Abuse is a major issue for families seeking comfortable and compassionate care for their aged family and friends. When a family chooses to place an elderly loved one into nursing home care, they expect professional caretaking services and a happy experience for their family members.
However, sadly this is not always the case. In October of 2013, Fox News DFW reported that staff in a Texas hospice were abusing 98-year old Minnie Graham. Caught on camera, hospice worker Brenna Tiller was seen slapping and verbally abusing Ms. Graham.
Ms. Graham’s family contacted Wormington & Bollinger seeking experienced legal counsel in dealing with this abuse and finding justice. Wormington & Bollinger was able to successfully handle the case, leading to Tiller’s felony conviction, 5 years of probation, and loss of her nursing home licence.
Speaking on behalf of the Graham family, Shirley Ballard, Graham’s granddaughter, commented, “There was justice, in a way – we hope that she won’t ever be able to do that again.”
Despite the tragic circumstances, Wormington & Bollinger is proud of this success, and hopes that aggressive legal action will help to protect more nursing home patients and families in the future.
While it is truly unfortunate that this type of legal action is necessary, families should be aware that nursing home abuse is sadly more common than one might think. Having experienced and compassionate legal representation in such cases is critical towards finding justice and getting the compensation that you and your family deserve.
